Therapy can be a powerful and life-changing tool. Many clients come to me seeking guidance or direction in their lives, needing support navigating interpersonal relationships, career goals, and existential life questions. Three words that I use to describe my style of therapy are: practical, challenging, and affirming. I like to bring practicality and flexibility to my therapeutic practice: tailoring each therapy plan to the needs of the client. I challenge the thought processes and personality constructs that have caused conflict or disorder in our lives. Most importantly, I validate and affirm my clients by showing unconditional positive regard.
Sometimes life is messy, and like a spill tray, therapy can help to contain this mess before it overflows into other areas of your life. As a harm reduction psychotherapist, I will work with you to reduce risk and get the most positive outcomes from your decisions, while also mitigating the negative consequences and containing the spill.
Interpersonal relationships are often our most significant source of both joy and pain, comfort and difficulty. Healthy relationships take work. Therapy can support both individuals and couples to improve their relationships with others.
Not having the words to explain yourself can be frustrating. Some people bury their anger to deal with later, only to lose control when it builds too high. Therapy can help people handle intense emotions and communicate in a healthy way.
Drinking and drugs can have a huge impact on our health, job, and relationships. Using a harm reduction approach, I support clients in setting goals to reduce and/or eliminate the negative effects associated with drinking and drug use.
Many people struggle with feelings of overwhelming sadness and hopelessness. Excessive worry can lead to intense anxiety. Therapy can help manage these difficult and debilitating experiences.
When we experience trauma, we often carry with us the weight and the fear from those experiences, Therapy can help to free clients from this past hurt so they can begin to fully engage with the world around them in a way that feels safe.
Building a career that provides financial security and a sense of purpose can take a long time. A therapist can support you with making important decisions to ensure that you continue to progress in your career and achieve long term success.
The free initial consultation can either be conducted over the phone, video chat, or in the office. We will discuss what has you seeking therapy, what you are looking for in a therapist, and you will have the opportunity to ask any questions to help determine if we would be a good fit. We will also establish the cost per session, based on the sliding fee scale.
Therapy is a big financial and time commitment. Those who are willing to invest in their health and happiness often gain the most from engaging in treatment. The cost per individual session is $180. Because this can be difficult to afford for many people seeking therapy, I offer a sliding fee scale to those who cannot afford the full amount.
In order to calculate the amount that you would pay per session, take a base rate of $20, and add .1% of your annual income (i.e. chop off three zeros). Ex 1: $20 + .001 x $80,000 = $100/session. Ex 2: $20 + .001 x $140,000 = $160/session. The minimum amount per individual session is $100. (For couples sessions, take a base rate of $40 and use the same formula using combined income).
Group therapy is $50 per person.
If a client is in need of a letter or documentation of any sort (for employers, court, landlords, etc.), the cost is $50.
We will take all factors into consideration when setting a price, not just income, with the goal of providing therapy to all people, regardless of their financial situation.
Over the first one or two sessions, I will generally conduct an evaluation to gain a full understanding of your strengths and your struggles. We will discuss your physical, social, and mental health, as well as any immediate needs you may have. As we finish the evaluation, we will set some treatment goals together that will guide our future sessions, and I will tailor a specific treatment plan based on these goals.
For most new clients, I recommend weekly sessions for the first few months. As you begin to experience relief and improvement, we can begin to taper down to sessions every other week, and eventually monthly. My goal is to support my clients in learning and practicing skills so that they no longer need weekly therapy; yet, there may likely be life circumstances that require us to return to weekly sessions at some point in the future. I am here to meet the specific needs of each individual client, and therefore, scheduling sessions can look different for every person.
